Box Text Theater – Sonic The Hedgehog 2

With this episode of Box Text Theater, we pay tribute to the legendary video game artist Greg Martin. His wonderful art graced the covers of most of the classic Sonic games on Sega platforms, including Sonic The Hedgehog 2 of the Sega Master System.

Greg was an artist for Hanna-Barbara before jumping into the world of video gaming. I really respect artists such as this man. My late Grandfather was Marvel Comics silver age inker Mike Esposito. The work that men and women in this business contribute is astounding and the talent is undeniable.

Looking at Greg’s art, it’s undeniable that the man had a whimsy to his work. Each video game he created the artwork for has a certain spark. I didn’t know the man, but I’m sure he was a big kid. You’d have to be.
